LeonidesArts NY and the Brooklyn Community Pride Center proudly present the NYC premiere of “TURN OF THE CENTURY,” a solo exhibition of recent work by multi-media artist and curator Ricardo Osmondo Francis. With its premiere last year at the East End Studio Gallery in Houston, TX, this transcendent exhibition was an exemplary reintroduction to Francis’ engaging yet enigmatic oeuvre. For it’s New York premiere “TURN OF THE CENTURY” again features an eloquent selection of paintings and drawings the artist has developed within the last few years. Both revelatory and enlightening, this exhibit visually impels a sumptuous imaginative existence of humanity brimming in spiritual symbolism all while subtly commenting on a variety of social-political issues and themes.

Inspired by Classical art, multi-ethnic antiquity, and present day advertisement imagery Francis’ vivid pictorial works present a torrent of imagery culled from every possible corner of the visual culture. His mixed media paintings and drawings are best described as lush surrealistic narratives that often depict the social constructs of racial identity, masculinity, economics, and the complexity of human existence through mesmerizing contemplative portraits, still life, and abstract compositions.

Ricardo Osmondo Francis, a native of Houston, TX, currently lives in Jersey City and works in Newark, NJ where he maintains a studio at SOLO(s) Project House. He received a BFA in painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, MD) in 1998 and is a graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (Houston, TX)  in 1994. He presently is the Curator in Residence for the Brooklyn Community Pride Center in Brooklyn, NY and is the Gallery Director for LeonidesArts NY.

“TURN OF THE CENTURY” will run until Monday August 31, 2015. The opening reception is free to the public and includes a special guest dance performance by Zullo/RawMovement, with choreography by John Zullo.

Office hours for BCPC are Monday – Friday 12 PM – 8 PM.
